Dr. Ryan Shea

Ryan Shea received a B.S. degree in Physics and B.A. degree in Mathematics from Augsburg College (Magna Cum Laude). He completed his Ph. D. in electrical engineering researching MEMS infrared detectors and thermoelectric elements.

Dr. Shea is now at Cypress Semiconductor in Minneapolis.

Dr. Anand Gawarikar

Anand Gawarikar got his Bachelors in Technology (honours) in Electronics Engineering from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, India. He completed his doctoral degree in electrical engineering in 2013, with research on MEMS infrared detectors and semiconductor fabrication.

Dr. Gawarikar now holds a position at Intel Corporation in Portland, OR.

Dr. Sangho Kim

Sangho Sam Kim received the B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering (summa cum laude) from the Pusan National University, South Korea. He worked at Engine Control System Design Team at Hyundai & Kia Motor Company after he got the M.S. degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology (GIST). He graduated from the Optical MEMS Group in 2012 with a Ph.D. in electrical engineering.

Dr. Kim is now with Seagate.

Dr. Nick Gabriel

Nick Gabriel received a B.S.E.E. (summa cum laude), M.S.E.E., and Ph.D from the University of Minnesota. His research interests centered on MEMS sensors and thermomechanically robust thin films for high temperature applications.

Dr. Gabriel now holds a post at 3M.

Dr. Jan Makowski

Jan Makowski started his studies at Chemnity University of Technology in Chemnitz, Germany. After 3 years of studies, he came to the University of Minnesota on a Fulbright scholarship. He received his MSEE in May 2006 and his PhD in December 2008. His research focused on MOEMS using InP/InGaAs heterostructures.

Post-graduation, Dr. Makowski accepted a position with Bosch Group in his native Germany.

Michael Manfred

Michael Manfred received a B.S. in physics from the University of Minnesota before joining Optical MEMS Group. He received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering in the spring of 2008 and graduated to a job at Honeywell Inc.


Dr. Woo-Bin Song

Woo-Bin Song achieved a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and following graduation, stayed in the group as a post-doctoral researcher. He departed the Optical MEMS Group in 2007, and can now be found at Samsung Corporation in his native Korea.
